US-based health care contracting services company Novation has announced partnership with healthcare sustainability leaders in an attempt to cut down excess packaging and cardboard in the US hospitals.

To help its members with the change, Novation is working with Practice Greenhealth and the Use Reusables campaign, a joint project of StopWaste.Org and the Reusable Packaging Association, while US EPA's Climate Showcase Community program will provide the financial support.

Limited-life transport packaging materials including cardboard boxes, wood pallets and plastic film in hospitals will be replaced with durable, reusable alternatives, as part of the company's new initiative.

The company will help hospitals implement and sustain reusable transport packaging alternatives in both distributed and direct-from-supplier supplies. It will also help identify and overcome common hurdles with suppliers in their effort to introduce reusables.

A toolkit will also be developed for use by all hospitals, which look to implement reusable transport packaging with their distributors and suppliers, the company said.
